It’s great to see Grandma Coffman today. She seems to be doing pretty well today. I got to play the piano at Grandma’s this morning before conference. This was fun since it brought back memories of when I was younger.
“How long we have wandered as strangers in sin, And cried in the desert for thee! Our foes have rejoiced when are sorrows they’ve seen…
“Fear not, and be just, For the kingdom is ours. The hour of redemption is near.”
Sister Cook (Young Women’s 1st Counselor):
How can we teach our children to be on the path to eternal life? Don’t permit ourselves to do anything we don’t want our children to do. We must be an example!
Strengthen our testimony!
We must show our children and youth through studying the scriptures and through prayer, both with them and personally. We have to have both hands on the rod of iron.
Be an example of the Lord in purity. Faith, Repentance, and Baptism! Give up activities that draw us away from the iron rod. Take care that the media we invite in to our homes follow the gospel principles we teach.
We can’t waste our time using the Internet, social media and other media sources in place of spending time with our families.
Look for good examples of people you can associate yourself with that live the type of life you wish to live.
Elder Dallin H. Oaks:
2 Lines of Communication – the personal and priesthood line of communication.
Personal line: prayer directly to our Heavenly Father. Don’t be afraid to ask God for the things you have questions about.
Priesthood leaders aren’t to make personal decisions for people.
The right to the continuous companionship of the Holy Ghost is renewed each week via partaking of the sacrament.
God will not excuse us from disobeying certain commandments.
The young prophet Joseph Smith could not translate when he was angry or upset (this is a result of pride). He went, made supplication to the Lord for about an hour, came back, ask Emma for forgiveness, and came back and began to translate. He could do nothing save he was humble.
It’s important to have a balance between the priesthood line of communication and the personal line of communication.
President Thomas S. Monson:
Luke 17 – do we remember to give thanks for the blessings we receive?
Giving sincere thanks helps us feel God’s love.
“When you walk with gratitude, you do not walk with arrogance, conceit, and egotism…” – President Hinckley
We must confess our Heavenly Father’s hand in all things! Live in thanksgiving daily for all that God has given us. Cease to focus on what we LACK and more on what we’ve been blessed with.
Our lives are blessed in countless ways.
L. Tom Perry:
The world has the potential of destroying what is right and what is wrong.
Keep your body healthy and clean.
Be strong and resist temptation.
Trust in the Lord.
It’s a special blessing to receive the Aaronic Priesthood.
The Lord is bound by covenant if we are obedient. We’ll have wisdom, knowledge and power given to us as we obey the priesthood covenants we make.
