I went last night to the group meeting for the first time in about 3 or 4 months.
Yes, I had a “valid” excuse, but no excuse is really “valid”: Becky’s class she teaches is on Wednesday and her YW schedule was changed to Thursday.
Finally I decided to go to the BYU meeting again on Tuesday nights at 7:30 p.m.
My friend Devin and I talked and decided to go together, which is always helpful.
It felt really good to get back into the meeting routine. Things have not be perfect since I stopped attending the meeting. Not only have I had a couple relapses, but I feel like I “play with fire” quite a bit by looking at Facebook photos, checking out social media places where I know there could be danger, etc.
Today I saw stuff on a new social network called Pinterest. It’s rarely ever full nudity, but sometimes partial or really close. I know the effect it’s having on my relationship with Becky and on the Spirit, which can’t be with me if I go down these paths.
So, I’m ready to start anew and get back into a routine of sorts with my recovery.
I shared the following things at the recovery meeting – things I’d learned thus far about the meeting or through the meeting:
- Keeping the CHIN UP is always going to protect me
- Working the steps of the program: reading, answering questions, applying the action steps
- Being consistent by coming to the meetings every week or more if needed
- Working with a sponsor or support person who understands what I’m going through
- Sticking to the basic things that will help
- Turning to Heavenly Father in ANY moment of temptation – doesn’t have to be long, just willingness to turn to Him
I know what I need to do – now it’s just a matter of SUBMITTING MY WILL TO GOD.
Hasta manana.

Nate,
I’m an LDS member and ran across your website when doing a search for a specific topic. Just wanted to congratulate you on our efforts to get back on track with the our HF. Any type of recovery is difficult because Satan will always tempt us because he knows of our specific weaknesses. The only thing that will get you there is the love you have towards the Lord, towards your family and perseverance. I’m glad you have a website where you can post comments and uplifting articles… I’m sure your words will help many others.
I tried doing the same but it’s hard for me to write on a daily basis.
Take care and God bless you and your family.
