Faith in Jesus Christ – Step 2 – Hope

By N

To start, last night/this morning was a bit of a tough time: Madi woke up at 4:00 a.m., went in to Caleb’s room, and wanted to sleep with him.  I heard her get up and went in and got mad at both of them.  May not have handled it as best as I could have.  From there I find out that Caleb had wet his bed too.  AHH!  Finally, I decided to tie an extension cord to Madi’s door so she can’t get out and roam around.  Although this may be a bit harsh, I do feel it will solve the problem of her getting up WAY EARLY and then waking up Caleb and everyone else.

The good news is that I read a bit in the manual this morning and said a personal vocal prayer. I asked Heavenly Father to help me with the following topic, as found in the Step 2 Hope Action Step:

Preach unto them repentance, and faith on the Lord Jesus Christ; teach them to humble themselves and to be meek and lowly in heart; teach them to withstand every temptation of the devil, with their faith on the Lord Jesus Christ” (Alma 37:33)

Many of us tried to get out of our addictions through sheer willpower or through having faith in a friend or therapist.  Sooner or later we fond that our faith in ourselves or others did not enable us to overcome our addictions fully.  Write about your feelings today of being humble and wiling to turn to Christ and His gospel above all other sources of help in your recovery efforts.

What I prayed about today was the fact that I know that prayer, scripture study, and reading and applying the manual are imperative.  However, I also know that these have been hard things for me to hold myself accountable to do on a consistent basis.  I prayed that the Sponsor would be a good start, but that I would eventually do these things for a love of God and that I would receive guidance on how to best have stronger faith and reliance in the Savior.

I’m excited about the steps I’m taking and the consciousness I have of the need for help from Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

Hope it’s a great and uplifting day!

Nate
