The Importance of Committees in the Priesthood

By N

Why do we have the priesthood? To serve the people…

3 Small Elders Quorums within 1 Big Quorum

  • Perfect the Saints (Temporal & Spiritual Welfare Committee)
  • Proclaim the Gospel (Mission Committee)
  • Redeem the Dead (Temple & Family History Committee)

All have the duty to help members and less actives become more involved in the 3 Fold Mission of the Church.

Ideas for Committee Chairs

Temporal & Spiritual Welfare Committee

  • Meet with counselors – set goals, teach entire quorum things from the Church Handbook
  • Have executive meetings on a regular basis
  • Set up quorum and/or family activities, including firesides, service activities, etc.
  • What else can be done in these “executive meetings”? (see “The Unwritten Order” by Boyd K. Packer)

Mission Committee

  • Encourage one another to invite neighbors over for family activities (members and non-members alike)
  • Help quorum to pray for mission opportunities and/or names to work with
  • Work directly with the Ward Mission Leader
  • Get list of inactive families and visit them as committee leadership
  • What else can be done in these “executive meetings”?

Temple & Family History Committee

  • Set goals to attend temple with your families
  • Ask “How can we help people get to the temple more often?”
  • Invite a friend or neighbor family to go to the temple with you
  • Volunteer to take care of a neighbor’s kids while they go to the temple (and vice versa)
  • What else can be done in these “executive meetings”?

Goals

  1. Meet as committee leaders, pray together for guidance to magnify your call
  2. Set small achievable goals as committees, let everyone participate in the goal setting process
  3. Meet as an entire committee once a month in Elders Quorum to discuss goals and give a report to the quorum (1st Sunday)
  4. Know who’s is the committees and what committee you’re in
  5. Plan an activity for your committee
  6. Mission Committee activity within the 1st Quarter

Doctrine and Covenants 84:43-48 If we do our part, we will bless all around us.
