Day 2 – Anyone for Painting

By N

Day 2 – 11:46 – We had a great day today: it was really sunny, Josh, Becky and the kids went on a bike ride up Provo Canyon, I got to eat at Tucanos, and…the kicker…Josh, Becky and I painted 4 of the 5 walls in our main bedroom.

We painted them the same color as down stairs but the color seems to be a lot darker because of the size and lighting in the room.  It was a great experience and really went pretty quickly.

I just watched the following video about the life and sacrifice of Jesus Christ.  I’m excited to go to my class on Wednesday.  I’m excited to share my 30 day challenge about journal writing.  I’m excited to feel the Spirit in my life as I strive to center my purpose on the teachings of the Savior.

“My son, peace be unto thy soul; thine adversity and thine afflictions shall be but a small moment;

“And then, if thou endure it well, God shall exalt thee on high; thou shalt triumph over all thy foes.

“Thy friends do stand by thee, and they shall hail thee again with warm hearts and friendly hands.

“Thou art not yet as Job; thy friends do not contend against thee, neither charge thee with transgression, as they did Job.”

This is the scripture that the Lord shared with Joseph Smith as he cried out in a dungeon.  Even the best of people go through trials and tribulations.  Putting our trust in the Lord is crucial – in good times and in bad times.

I have seen faith and courage come from a testimony that it is true that we are being prepared for eternal life. The Lord will rescue His faithful disciples. And the disciple who accepts a trial as an invitation to grow and therefore qualify for eternal life can find peace in the midst of the struggle. (President Henry B. Eyring )

I feel really good about taking time to write in my journal, study the words of the prophets and reflect.

Today gave me opportunities to learn in the following ways:

  1. Dealing with Change at Work : Change is inevitable in the eternal scheme of things.  The key is how I react to change.  Working with my employees and being patient, understanding and clear is something I need to continue to focus on.
  2. Patience with the Kids : Sometimes raising my voice is necessary, but most times it isn’t.  "Be bold but not overbearing…"  Loving Caleb and Madi in to doing what we’d like them to do is a much better option
  3. How I Handle Tiredness : When I get tired I often also get irritable.  I can work at that and not let the way I feel effect how I treat others.

I look forward to a great day tomorrow and will be looking for things I can learn and work on.
