Day 10 – 11:57 p.m. – Whew, I almost forgot tonight. I was busy watching the Jazz get beat pretty bad, finishing up painting in the master bath, and then watching the Jazz come back and then lose ultimately.
I had to let an employee go today – definitely not my favorite thing to do at all. They took it pretty well.
I also worked hard on being more respectful to the person I report to at work. It’s been tough because, when I was hired, I has "the boss" and "the person I reported to" in the same office. Generally, I’d speak with "the boss" unless he was busy. Now, "the boss" is rarely in our office so "the person I report to" has basically become "the boss". It’s been an interesting transition. I’ve realized that I really need to humble myself, put myself in "the new boss’s" shoes, and be grateful I even have a job in these tough economic times.
I’m grateful for my wife and how much she supports me in what I do. I’m excited that she is taking on the world of internet marketing more – she set up her DBA tonight. I know that I’ve been blessed in many areas of my life and need to recognize the hand of God in all these blessings.
I’m grateful for my calling in the Young Men’s presidency. I love working with the teachers, relating to them, and hopefully having an influence for good on their lives.
“And again, inasmuch as parents have children in Zion, or in any of her stakes which are organized, that teach them not to understand the doctrine of repentance, faith in Christ the Son of the living God, and of baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost by the laying on of the hands, when eight years old, the sin be upon the heads of the parents” (D&C 68:25 ).
I love my children. I’m so grateful that Becky is such a wonderful teacher. Again, tonight, when I got home later from work, Caleb was so excited to go out and "play soccer" together. We kicked the ball back and forth; I held Madi some of the time, and just enjoyed one another’s company. Our children are what life is all about. Becky and I are so blessed to have healthy, smart, and good natured little ones. I hope I can always do my best to be the best daddy for them to watch and follow.
I know the Gospel is the only way to true happiness. It’s tough to not get distracted with so many things going on in the world. Writing in my journal is really helping me form good habits. Until tomorrow!
Nate
