We had a good day today. We got up and went to a city breakfast and to see Santa. It was really fun to see Jayden get so excited about sitting on Santa’s lap. Caleb knows about Santa and I imagine Madi is starting to wonder, but Chloe and J are still really excited.
After breakfast, we came back and Grandma and Grandpa planned to take all the kids to a movie. Beck and I were going to get ready and go to the Twin Falls temple. As we were getting ready, we heard the door open and everyone was back. Apparently the early matinee had sold out. They were all going to go to the later show, which wouldn’t effect us going to the temple.
We got out the door and headed to Twin.
When we walked in the temple and headed to get dressed one of the workers ask if we would like to be the witness couple. We said yes, although I was honestly a bit nervous for a couple reasons: 1. Becky is pregnant and the last time we did sealings and she was pregnant she fainted for having been kneeling for so long 2. We’ve been to the temple a few times together since all of my confession and most of the times, Becky has been really emotional.
But, we got ready and proceeded to the session.
We were there early enough that I got to sit in the room and just wait for about 20 minutes. I tried to practice meditating – where I think of a scripture and repeat it in my mind over and over again. I worked on Mosiah 4:30, which I felt was fitting. I’m excited to work on meditation: it’s a way to train the mind to focus on good things and push out the negative or bad thoughts. It’s also where I am in the work with my counselor.
The meditation went pretty good. I’m not sure how to measure “success” but I was able to think about the scripture pretty consistently for a bit.
The session started and Beck and I were seated as the witness couple.
Things went well. She didn’t faint and her emotions seemed to be fine.
I thought the prayer was really special too: the worker talked about repentance, forgiveness, and working through trials, which are things I don’t recall hearing that often in a prayer like that.
We went to the Celestial room and had a good talk about how we felt – both of us felt grateful to be there worthily and to be able to be a witness couple together. I love Beck so much and feel so lucky that she’s trying to forgive me for all the pain I’ve caused her.
After the temple, we went shopping for some hiking boots for me for Christmas and found some great ones on sale at Sportsmans Warehouse. We then headed home in time for Milo’s birthday party at the bowling alley.
Bowling was fun. I saw the Beck parents and then who I thought was Celes but I couldn’t tell – she had really short hair and a hat on.
Eventually we talked at it was her.
I introduced her to Becky and we left shortly after that.
I’m grateful for family. I’m grateful we were able to be there to support Jamie and Josh and their son. I’m grateful to have been able to go to the temple. I’m grateful for the talk Becky and I had tonight about how the day went. I’m grateful I was able to be honest about how I was nervous a bit about the witness couple thing. I’m grateful I was also able to be honest about having a crush on Celes back in 9th grade. Honesty is an essential part of recovery.
I’m also grateful that I submitted to God and didn’t let my eyes wander. I did catch myself once while bowling and was able to submit and step away from the situation.
I’m grateful to be aware of those thoughts and feelings.
I’m grateful that tomorrow I will get to go over the first step section with my sponsor.
I look forward to continuing to work on the steps and in recovery.
Hasta manana!
Nate
